产业系统工程学是在快速变化的产业社会中，通过合理设计、运行、分析、评估和改进由人、原材料、设施、能源和信息组成的集成组织系统，提高了生产率和效率的学术。
为了实现这些目标，需要科学分析和判断、组织性的策划能力和持续的创造力。于是，该系培养出在产业经营、运用科学、人类-机械系统、应用统计、制造系统工程学、计算机技术的应用和产业信息系统领域具有研究能力并能引领高度产业化的创意性高级科学人才。
