统计学不仅广泛应用于舆论调查、需求预测、物价调查、医药品功效分析、质量管理、
各种实验的设计和结果分析等实际生活，而且还为医学、生物学、工学等理工科领域和心理学、社会学、经济学等各种领域的学问研究提供基本方法论，发挥着极其重要的作用。
统计系的目标在于：以统计学理论教育为基础，用电脑等多样的实习装备进行实习和舆论调查等现场实习，以培养统计工作人员，同时也培养能够在应用领域扮演主导性角色的人才。
