新材料工程学所研究的物质结构和特性,从原子或分子单位出发,新材料的开发是发展尖端科学技术必不可少的基本条件。因此,新材料工程学不仅包括物理学、化学等基础科学,而且还包括纳米科学技术等尖端领域和机械工程学、电气电子工程学等主要工学领域,是一门综合性基础及应用学问。新材料工程系的教育课程包括以下门个课程:一门是对物质的基本结构和特性的理解及其应用相关教学课程,另一门是将原材料的特性应用于机械、电气、电子系统领域时所需机械电子学领域的共同教学课程。新材料工程系培养具有材料工学各种领域和机械、电气、电子、控制测量工学融为一体的学问基础和创意性问题解决能力的人才,为社区和国家发展做出贡献。
