유비쿼터스통신연구실(U-TOPIA)

Ubiquitous Communication Laboratory(U-TOPIA) has been developing several applications and services that comprehensively utilize IoT(Internet of Things), Cloud-based Databases, Mobile and Web Programming, Big-Data Analysis and Machine Learning technologies.

U-TOPIA lab members are frequently participating in several projects every year due to their rich and extensive experience in developing a technology to collect and monitor environmental data from various real environments including Smart City, Smart Farm, and Smart Factory in real-time. After successfully developing and implementing the technology, the lab members will publish the results as a research papers in both domestic and foreign journals as well as academic conferences.

In terms of collecting data, U-TOPIA specialized in using Sensors, Arduino and Raspberry Pi boards, and Communication Modules such as WiFi, LTE, and LoRa. The collected data sets will be stored in Standalone Local Server-based or Cloud-based Databases, such as MySQL, MariaDB and Google Firebase. These data sets can be used to develop Mobile Applications or Web Applications to control and monitor real environment conditions. Additionally, the stored data sets can be accumulated and turned into Big Data where a Machine Learning model to predict the upcoming values or events can be implemented.

In recent years, U-TOPIA has also expanded its research domain into the field of Artificial Intelligence(AI), with a particular focus on Large Language Model(LLM) and Retrieval-Augmented Generation(RAG) technologies. This research aims to explore the integration of natural language understanding, knowledge retrieval, and contextual reasoning to create more intelligent, adaptive, and human-like computational systems. The laboratory is investigating how LLM and RAG can be applied across diverse domains such as data-driven decision support, intelligent information retrieval, and automated knowledge management systems. Through this research, U-TOPIA seeks to contribute to the advancement of next-generation AI frameworks capable of providing accurate, explainable, and context-aware responses by combining the strengths of large-scale pre-trained models with dynamic up-to-date knowledge sources.
